Polished Concrete or Epoxy?

We install both polished concrete and epoxy. The right call comes down to your space, your traffic, and the look you want. Here is where each one shines.

Polished Concrete

Best for warehouses, plants, retail, and large slabs where you want a natural, light-reflecting finish that takes very little upkeep.

  • Uses your existing slab, no separate topcoat
  • Reflects light and brightens the space
  • Very low maintenance over decades
  • Handles forklift and heavy foot traffic
  • Fast install, minimal downtime

Epoxy & Coatings

Best when you want bold color, a continuous waterproof surface, or extra chemical resistance for garages, kitchens, and wash bays.

  • Bold color and custom decorative looks
  • Continuous, fully waterproof surface
  • Strong chemical and stain resistance
  • Smooths over slab imperfections
  • Proven workhorse for the right space

Not sure which fits your space? Tell us how the floor gets used and we'll recommend the right system, so you aren't sold more floor than the job needs.

Built for a Pittsburgh winter

Salt, slush and grit, every day

From November to March, every boot and pallet jack carries road salt across the floor. Polished concrete has no wax to strip, cleans up fast, and goes in indoors, so the weather doesn't set your schedule. If you manage a building or run a job site, start with the page written for you.

Questions from Pittsburgh managers

Before you call

The questions we hear first from building managers and contractors, answered plainly.

Is polished concrete a good choice for a Pittsburgh building that sees salt all winter?

It's one of the easier floors to live with through a salt season. The slab is sealed, so salt residue comes up with a neutral cleaner and a scrubber instead of a strip-and-wax cycle or a chipped coating. Most of the work is stopping the salt at the door with a proper mat zone, which we plan with you.

Can you work in winter, or does polishing wait for spring?

Polishing is indoor work, so winter weather doesn't set the schedule. What matters is the building: densifiers and guards have minimum temperature ranges, so the space needs to be heated, which most occupied Pittsburgh buildings already are.

My building is an older Pittsburgh brick or mill building. Can the slab be polished?

Often yes, and the old slab can look great. Older floors have had decades of patching, glue, paint and coatings, so we check the actual slab before anything is priced and tell you what it will and won't polish to.

How long does a polished floor last, and what does it need?

A polished floor is the slab itself, so there's no topcoat to peel, which means no recoating later. It needs routine dust mopping or machine cleaning with a neutral cleaner, and in very high-wear lanes it can be refreshed or re-polished later. How often depends on your traffic, and we give you a cleaning routine in writing.

Should I choose polished concrete or epoxy?

We install both and don't favor either. Polished concrete suits large slabs where you want a light-reflecting, low-maintenance finish. Epoxy suits spaces that need bold color, a continuous waterproof surface or extra chemical resistance. Tell us how the floor is used and we'll say which fits.

How do I get a number for my building?

To get a number for your building, send the address, a rough square footage and a photo or two of the floor, or call. We'll walk the space, check the slab, and write a scope that names the finish level, so the quote matches what you'll see.
